Mental Health Coordinators
&
District Threat Management Coordinators

In accordance with section 1006.07(6)(b), Florida Statutes, each K-12 school district is required to have a Mental Health Coordinator (MHC). The Mental Health Coordinator, shall serve as the district's primary point of contact regarding the district's coordination, communication, and implementation of student mental health policies, procedures, responsibilities, and reporting. They ensure that mental health services are effectively integrated within the school setting and delivered to students in need. Furthermore, they are responsible for ensuring that parents of students receiving mental health services are well-informed about the availability of other school or community-based behavioral health providers.

 

Simultaneously, in accordance with section 1006.07(7)(j), Florida Statutes, each district school board shall establish a District Threat Management Coordinator (DTMC) to serve as the primary point of contact regarding the district’s coordination, communication, and implementation of the threat management program and to report quantitative data to the Office of Safe Schools in accordance with guidance from the office. This individual is responsible for overseeing threat management across all public K-12 schools within the district, including charter schools. As a key member of the District Threat Management Team (DTMT), which includes staff from the school district administration, law enforcement, counseling experts, and individuals with school instruction experience, the DTMC plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of the school environment by effectively managing potential threats. Together, these roles contribute significantly to the overall wellbeing and safety of students within Florida’s school districts.
